Why would the criminal justice system do this to our military heros?

Sgt Steven Green ( USA Military ) has been identified as the ringleader in the murder rampage. He was convicted last week in U.S. District Court in Kentucky of murder, , conspiracy and obstruction of justice. Sgt Green killed an Iraqi family. Four other American soldiers barged into the home of an Iraqi family in 2006, d a 14-year-old girl, killed her and her family, and set the home afire, authorities said. Sgt Green and his men stated they had friends killed and were getting back at the enemy. They did this to the family to make America proud. Sort of a "Kill all and let God sort them out" type of thing. This is what the military teaches their men. War is war and people die.
