Cat Coat Care advise?

My cat is recovering from skin disease and she has a lot of scabs and flaky skin which is loose in her long coat. I brush her daily at the moment but it's not really doing a great job catching it all out. Do fine tooth combs work for this type of need? I have been rubing my hand backwards and forwards through her coat to help some of the loose bits (lovely! lol) hoover at the ready, but there are MILLIONS :(
