Does mahatma rice have anything to do with mahatma gandhi?

As stated it was just a smart marketing technique to popularize it with a popular name. Just as Jasmine, Basmati, Arborio, Carnoli, etc are simply names. Quite often they are named after the towns or areas in the world where they grow.
